Our classic Romulan is back!

Romulan is a classic from the west coast of Canada going back many decades. Its the foundation of many of todays top strains. It was originally created by Korean war veterans who started their growing in the 60’s with Columbian and Mexican sativas. For several decades they grew these seeds in greenhouses on south Vancouver Island always selecting the earliest flowering phenotypes for the next season. When the early 80’s came the indica genetics arrived from Afghanistan and thats when this cross with the Columbian/Mexican hybrid sativas’ happened.

Romulan is a classic from the west coast of Canada going back many decades. Its the foundation of many of todays top strains. It was originally created by Korean war veterans who started their growing in the 60's with Columbian and Mexican sativas. For several decades they grew these seeds in greenhouses on south Vancouver Island always selecting the earliest flowering phenotypes for the next season. When the early 80's came the indica genetics arrived from Afghanistan and thats when this cross with the Columbian/Mexican hybrid sativas' happened.

A selection of this hybrid was chosen and became the famous "Romulan". Most plants in this pheno-hunt were very sativa dominant, but the Romulan selection was the runt of the batch. It was kept because of the extremely strong smell, and knockout potency.. Over the past few decades I've grown several landrace Columbian strains and noticed huge similarities with the classic "Columbian Red", in flavor, aroma, and effect...but the growth structure was completely different.. Many people mistakenly call Romulan an indica strain because of its squat grow structure, but its not, its at least 50% sativa. Many of the effects are very, very sedative and that also leads people to believe that its indica dominant.

In 1996 I received the original clone from "Romulan Joe" and its been a key part of my breeding ever since. Crosses with the our Romulan male tend to produce plants with the high potency and terpenes of the Romulan genetics, while maintaining the structure and yield of the female plant he is crossed with.

In British Columbia in the 90's it was the number 1 strain for medical users. The British Columbia Compassion Society(and other medicinal providers) recommended it for their patients for many years.

Pure Romulan was never known for high yields, it was the high potency, extreme smell and high price people were willing to pay that made it famous. The new Romulan selection we are breeding has brought the yield up significantly. The Romulan we are producing now has maintained the strong high and piney flavor. The difference from the original is we've been selecting phenotypes with larger yields and more of sativa growth structure.
